Work hard, have fun

The EY start-up-challenge teams up representatives from seven hand-picked start-ups in "Industry 4.0 & Smart Services", as well as mentors from leading corporates and EY. Over the next three 12 weeks, participants will form ‘acceleration families’, clustered around the start-ups. Learn more in our interview with Martin Nehls, iTiZZiMO, Stefan Stoerig, MAN, and Daniel Schiffner, EY.

Martin, why did you join the challenge?

For me, there are two main reasons why it was a great decision for iTiZZiMO to join the challenge. First of all do I believe that agile start-ups and established companies need to cooperate much more than in the past. Only by exchanging thoughts, expectations and plans the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) can be realized. With our Simplifier, we enable companies to customize their own IIoT-applications. But, of course, we need their know-how to continuously improve our work.

The second reason for iTiZZiMO to join the challenge is to offer valuable input about the IIoT and to take away the fear of starting something new. There are lots of different ways to start a small project at no risk.

What would be your biggest asset in the ‘challenge’, Stefan?

Coming from MAN Trucks & Bus Germany, I am interested in getting inspiration from small, yet smart, business models in "Industry 4.0" that have the potential to grow big and can be transferred to our business. I am really excited about connecting with digital natives who provide me with insights into their way to think outside the box. Corporates sometimes struggle to implement a culture of innovation.

Daniel, why do you think is that so?

From my experience, I can say: a culture of innovation also means a culture of taking risks, accepting failure, and cooperating in a cross-sector manner. My job experiences range from various jobs such as web designer, owning a small agency to being a strategy consultant. My believe is that an engineer at MAN or any other established company does not necessarily need to have had a wide range of jobs, but he needs to understand how other departments think and work and be willing to network and cooperate. Working in such interdisciplinary team on digital initiatives can be a source of fun, job satisfaction, and future personal success. Just dare and do it!

With its Smart Business Platform Simplifier the Würzburg-based company offers a powerful instrument for digitally transforming business processes within the IIoT. By integrating all software systems, (mobile) devices and software-equipped products, processes can be digitized and new business models established.
